My website is not loading: first checks

If your website is not loading, these checks can help narrow down the cause.

1. Check the exact error

Common messages include DNS errors, 403 Forbidden, 404 Not Found, 500 Internal Server Error or SSL warnings.

2. Try another device or network

Test on mobile data as well as Wi-Fi. This helps confirm whether the issue is local to your connection.

3. Check DNS

If the domain was recently changed, DNS may still be updating.

4. Check your files

Make sure your website files are in public_html and that a homepage file such as index.php or index.html exists.

5. Check recent changes

If the issue started after updating a plugin, theme or script, that change may be the cause.
