What to do after your hosting account is created

A simple first-checklist for new hosting customers using cPanel.

What to do after your hosting account is created

Once your hosting account is active, there are a few useful checks to complete before you start building your website.

1. Check your welcome email

Your welcome email normally includes your cPanel login link, username, temporary password, server details, nameservers and support information. Keep this email somewhere safe.

2. Log in to cPanel

Open the cPanel link from your welcome email and sign in using the details provided. If you changed your domain nameservers recently, the normal domain-based cPanel link may not work until DNS has updated.

3. Point your domain to the hosting

If your domain is registered elsewhere, update its nameservers to the ones supplied in your welcome email. DNS changes can take a few hours and sometimes up to 24-48 hours to fully update worldwide.

4. Upload your website or install WordPress

For a standard website, upload files into the public_html folder. For WordPress, use the installer provided in cPanel if available, or upload WordPress manually.

5. Create email accounts

If email hosting is included, create your mailboxes from Email Accounts in cPanel. You can then connect them to Outlook, Apple Mail, Gmail or your phone.

Need help?

If you are unsure about any step, raise a support ticket and include your domain name plus a screenshot of any error message.
