What Is Search Engine Optimisation?

The majority of users are likely to find their way to your website via a search engine, such as Google, Yahoo! or via Bing.

Hence it is vital that your website can not only be found by these search engines, but be listed prominently by them too. Appearing at or near the top of a search engine results list is known as “ranking highly”. A high ranking website is far more likely to be visited than a lower ranking one.

Making sure that your website is ranked highly by search sites requires that your website is “optimised” for the search sites. This involves editing the website content to ensure that it matches what potential clients/customers are looking for. This service is known as Search Engine Optimisation and is more commonly written as just “SEO”.
